Steps
One plank at a time
Side work goes better when it's built in order. These first planks take a few weeks, and they make everything after them easier.
1. Pick one skill
Choose something you can already do reasonably well. Learning a new skill and finding clients at the same time is two jobs, not one.
2. Read your contract
Some employment contracts limit outside work, especially for competitors or clients. Check yours, and ask HR if anything is unclear.
3. Do one small job
One paid job, small enough to finish in a week. Time how long it really takes, including messages.
4. Record what arrived
Write down the price, the fees, and the amount that reached your account. That's your real starting figure.
Then decide
Only after these four does it make sense to look for a second client or change your rate.
